Hello! My name is Janna Hodge, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and the owner of Tending Thoughts Therapy, LLC. I have been a practicing mental health therapist for 15 years. I offer individual therapy and parent coaching throughout the state of New Jersey using a HIPAA complaint telehealth platform. Therapists have different theoretical approaches, training, specialties and therapy styles so it is important to find the right fit. Please explore the website for more information about my practice and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am proficient in treating anxiety (social, academic, performance, sports and health related), OCD and I have a passion for helping individuals manage ADHD. I also have experience treating repetitive body focused behavior (hair pulling, skin picking), college and career transitions, perfectionism, grief/loss, chronic pain, depression, panic, phobias, interpersonal issues and adjustments.
My typical age range for individual therapy is 8 years-old to 25 years-old, however I am qualified to work with adults. If you are struggling with the concerns I have listed above, we can schedule a free consult to see if I am the right provider for you.
The aim of parent coaching is to foster healthy parent-child bonds, enhance parental confidence and knowledge of pediatric mental health, align with parenting values and break through any barriers by equipping parents with the skills and strategies to address their child's emotional and behavioral needs. I want to take your unique qualifications as a parent and combine them with my qualifications as a pediatric mental health professional. Parent coaching can be conducted alongside individual therapy or as a standalone approach. This approach is a good option for parents looking to support young children experiencing anxiety, behavioral issues and/or ADHD.
The intention of my therapy practice is to hold space for you to process and thrive. I want to equip you with skills and strategies to tend to your growth.
My goal is to deliver the most effective treatment by understanding the whole person not just their symptoms.
My therapeutic style is collaborative, connection-based and incorporates a touch of light-hearted humor.
My theoretical framework includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic and Attachment-Based approaches.
Before scheduling an initial appointment, we will arrange a free 15 minute phone consultation to determine if I am the right provider for you or your child.
The duration or frequency of therapy is not fixed, as it is a personalized process that differs for each individual.
All therapy appointments are held via a HIPAA regulated teletherapy platform. Research supports that with the right provider, teletherapy can be equally as effective as in-person therapy in most cases. Teletherapy often increases treatment consistency, client comfortability and is easier to prioritize in busy schedules. Regardless of the benefits, teletherapy is not for everyone. Feel free to call to discuss whether teletherapy is a suitable option for you or your child.
I have been in practice for 15 years.
I am a certified CBT provider through the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and a Certified Grief Informed Professional and have trained at the Beck Insititute in areas of ADHD and chronic pain.
As a therapist, my path was shaped by experiences in my childhood that sparked a deep interest in understanding human behavior and emotions. These early moments of personal growth and reflection led me to pursue a career where I could help others navigate their own challenges and work toward healing.
When I’m not in the virtual office, you’ll likely find me delving into a good book, surrounded by plants.
