Hello! My name is Janna Hodge. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey and owner of Tending Thoughts Therapy, LLC.
-Thomas Edison
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults ages 8 to 25 years-old. My therapy experience includes treating anxiety (social, academic, performance, health etc.), depressive and obsessive-compulsive disorders. I have extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I also have experience helping individuals manage repetitive body focused behavior (hair pulling, skin picking), college and career transitions, perfectionism, grief, and chronic pain.
If you are a former client who has fallen out of the age-range listed above, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Parent coaching is a supportive counseling practice designed to help children and adolescents flourish. It can be conducted alongside individual therapy or as a standalone approach, tailored to the specific issues and age of the child. The aim of parent coaching is to foster healthy relationships, enhance parental insight, reduce feelings of helplessness, and bolster self-esteem by equipping parents with the skills to address their child's emotional and behavioral needs. My role as the therapist is to guide and collaborate with parents to discover solutions together. Parent coaching is particularly beneficial for children aged 12 and under who have ADHD or behavioral challenges, as well as for children and teenagers who may not be open to therapy yet.
The intention of my therapy practice is to provide a space to process emotions, thoughts, challenges, and strive toward personal goals. I want to equip you with skills and strategies to tend to your growth.
My aim is to cultivate a safe, collaborative and culturally sensitive experience characterized by empathy, connection and a touch of light-hearted humor.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Psychodynamic approaches. My goal is to deliver the most effective treatment by understanding the whole person not just their symptoms.
This an LGBTQIA+ safe practice.
Before scheduling an initial appointment, we will arrange a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation. For clients 17 and under, phone consultations are with the parent. If we determine that I am the right provider for you or your child, we will proceed with scheduling an initial appointment.
The duration or frequency of therapy is not fixed, as it is a personalized process that differs for each individual. We can discuss the treatment plan after the initial appointment and again at any point during the process.
All therapy appointments are held via a HIPAA regulated teletherapy platform. Research supports that with the right provider, teletherapy can be equally as effective as in-person therapy in most cases. Teletherapy helps increase access to mental health care and broadens my ability to help throughout the state of NJ. It reduces travel time, making it easier to prioritize in busy schedules. Teletherapy often increases treatment consistency, and client comfortability. Regardless of the benefits, teletherapy is not for everyone. Feel free to call to discuss whether teletherapy is a suitable option for you or your child.
I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of New Jersey, and the owner of Tending Thoughts Therapy, LLC. I have been in practice for 15 years, with my primary experience being in child and adolescent care.
I am a certified CBT professional and a Certified Grief Informed Professional and have trained at the Beck Insititute in areas of ADHD and chronic pain.
As a therapist, my path was shaped by experiences in my childhood that sparked a deep interest in understanding human behavior and emotions. These early moments of personal growth and reflection led me to pursue a career where I could help others navigate their own challenges and work toward healing.
When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me delving into a good book, surrounded by plants.
