Hello! My name is Janna Hodge, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in New Jersey.
I work with children, teens, and adults. I’m certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which forms the core of my approach, along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I also draw from psychodynamic and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapies (EFIT), trauma informed and attachment-based approaches when appropriate. My goal is to provide the most effective care by understanding the whole person not just their symptoms.
As a therapist, I provide compassionate support and empower my clients with practical tools for growth and healing. My style is tactfully and nonjudgmentally direct and conversational with a sprinkle of appropriate humor. I am also a self-appointed plant aficionado who loves reading, but I digress.
Please explore this page and email me at jh@tendingthoughtstherapy.com if you have any questions.

Children are like gardeners and scientists, tending to their garden, experimenting and learning what helps them grow. It is normal for there to be a few failed experiments and weeds along the way, but sometimes they become overwhelming. I hope to help children and teens learn how to find resilience among the weeds.
Some of my specialties are:
Anxiety - social, academic, performance, sports and health related anxiety
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Repetitive body-focused behavior – hair pulling and skin picking
Perfectionist thinking
Grief/loss/absent parent
Depression
Panic/Phobias
Chronic Pain - Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), medical mysteries, etc.
Social challenges and college transitions

Parent coaching helps you build a stronger connection with your child, feel more confident, and enhance your parenting tools to handle emotional or behavioral challenges. We’ll combine your expertise as a parent with my pediatric mental health expertise to tackle issues in a way that fits your household. Parent coaching can be done alongside therapy or on its own. It works well for kids dealing with anxiety, behavioral struggles, or ADHD.

We’ll start with a free confidential 15-minute phone consultation to see if I am the right provider for you or your child's treatment needs.
Please email me if you are interested in scheduling a free phone consultation.
After the phone consult, if we agree to have an initial appointment, the frequency of sessions, duration of therapy and treatment goals will be tailored uniquely to you.
All sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant teletherapy platform. Research shows that with the right provider, teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for most clients.
